Past papers are the single most effective IGCSE revision tool — but only if you use them deliberately. Doing papers on autopilot builds speed; reviewing them properly builds grades.

Where to find official past papers Cambridge (CAIE) and Pearson Edexcel both publish past papers, mark schemes and examiner reports through their official websites and school portals. Always download the mark scheme and the examiner report with each paper.

Start topic by topic, finish with full papers Early in revision, pull questions on one topic from several years. In the last six weeks, switch to full papers under timed conditions.

Mark with the mark scheme — strictly Mark your own paper using the official scheme. Notice how marks are awarded for method, units and key words. Many students lose a grade purely on presentation.

Keep an error log For every lost mark write the topic, the reason (knowledge, misread, careless, time) and the correct approach. Review the log weekly; patterns appear fast.

Read the examiner reports Examiner reports tell you exactly where most candidates went wrong. They are free grade boosts.
