The STEP (Standardized Test of English Proficiency) is Saudi Arabia's national English test, run by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission. Universities, scholarship programmes and employers use it to check English level.

Test format STEP is multiple choice and covers four areas: reading comprehension (the largest share), grammatical structure, listening comprehension and compositional analysis. It is offered in computer-based and paper-based formats.

What score do you need? Requirements vary by university, programme and employer, so always check the latest admission guide. As a rule of thumb, competitive programmes and scholarships ask for higher scores than general admission.

The fastest preparation strategy Reading is worth the most, so practise one short passage a day focusing on main idea and vocabulary in context. Review core grammar — tenses, passive voice, conditionals and connectors. Add 15 minutes of listening practice daily.

Final two weeks Take a full timed practice test every two days and review every wrong answer. Sleep well the night before; fatigue costs more marks than one more study session gains.
